| "Reading Racers", End Of An Era! |
| With the now widespread news that Benfield Sports International (BSI) are the new owners of my beloved Reading Speedway Team, comes the shocking news that they have decided to drop the famous "Racers" nickname and the "Winged Wheel" logo. |
| Since 1968, the winged wheel has been proudly worn by all Reading riders, including World Champions such as Anders Michanek and Per Johnsson. |
| Whilst the BSI takeover has given Reading Speedway a much needed boost, and the welcome and exciting lift into the 2006 Elite League, it is with most Racers fans protest that the new team will known as the Reading "Bulldogs". One can only summise there must be some anticipated financial gain with the introduction of a nickname truly belonging to the now defunct Bristol Bulldogs. |
| It is with a strong nostalgic feeling that I display the Winged Wheel on the front page of my website this update. Of course I will still be an avid supporter of the Reading team and I look forward to seeing top riders such as former World Champion Greg Hancock ride at Smallmead. I just can't bring myself to type that word beginning with a "B" again. |
