Impossible!
That was the task I set myself this last Saturday night at Paris Speedway.
With Michael choosing not to ride this weekend, I took the opportunity to put my Weslake to one side and climb back aboard our GM laydown machine. I wanted to see if there was any merit in planning to use the laydown for next weekend's all important Canadian Championship meeting.
It's been over two years since I last rode the GM at Paris and I have come a long way as a rider since then. This meant that the set-up Michael would use at Paris is no longer any good for my Division 1 pace.
I calculated what I thought would be a gearing selection close to my needs, but with the selection of sprockets available to me at the track on Saturday I could only gear the bike too tall.
Couple that with a worn out tyre (again suitable for Michael but not me) and it was like riding on ice with no studs!
It was an almost entertaining challenge just to keep the bike upright, and in fact an excellent lesson in throttle control!
Not wanting the added workload of cleaning and preparing two bikes myself this week, I chose to keep the Weslake clean and persevere with the ridiculous set-up of the GM.
A better bike may not necessarily have had any effect on my final finishing place in Division 1, seventh out of seven, but I'm sure I would have been quicker and more on the pace.
However, a very enjoyable evening was had by all on a great racing surface prepared by Dave Havill.
Let's hope the weather is kind for the annual Paris Fair meeting next weekend. With the Division 2 and 3 Championships on the Saturday, followed by the Canadian National Championship meeting on the Sunday it should be a cracker of a "speedwayfest"!
Needless to say, I will be campaigning the "old girl" my faithful Weslake on the Sunday, and Michael will be competing in the D2 championship Saturday afternoon.
See you all next weekend!

Paris 19th August Rained Out
No Speedway racing in Canada this weekend as Saturday's meeting at Paris was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Heavy rain all day depicted this SPG promoted event was literally dead in the water fairly early in the afternoon. The decision was correct as the rain didn't let up all day and was still coming down heavy into the early evening.
Next meeting will be Saturday 26th August at 7:00pm. Usual venue, Paris Fairgrounds.

We're back at last!
I can only apologize to our loyal visitors for the hopeless situation with our website of late.
I had to get a new pc, having lost everything off the old one. Only now do I have all the files and programs downloaded once more to update the site properly (a real pain with only having dial-up)!
So please check back over the next couple of days to see the latest updates. Thanks to Joan Luke for the sensational picture of Michael looping out at the gate! And thanks for all your patience, it's good to be back up to full speed once more.
Talk very soon,
